16.00 - 16.45 | Simon Gobert, Sustainability Reporting Manager, DSM + Jaap Rieter, Senior advisor MEA Industrie
Contrary to what the media would like us to believe, companies are playing a leading role in the transition towards a sustainable society. Why is that and what role can local business and industry play in achieving the SDGs in Maastricht? How can we learn from their strategies? Join Simon Gobert (DSM) and Jaap Rieter (MEA-Industrie) to explore these questions and more.
In this joint session, Simon Gobert (DSM) and Jaap Rieter (Maastrichtse Energie Akkoorden MEA Industrie), will explore the key challenges that Maastricht is facing towards achieving the SDGs and the role that local businesses and industry can play in addressing these challenges. Presentations and discussions will be both in English and Dutch.
Jaap Rieter about MEA-Industry: " Like every other municipality in the Netherlands Maastricht has the obligation to lower the energy consumption of the city, the inhabitants and companies and to seriously lower the CO2-emmissions. Maastricht started the MEA or “Maastrichtse Energie Akkoorden” program in 2016. The objective of MEA-Industry was and is to stimulate cooperation between the municipality and the larger industrial companies and together work on helping each other to seriously lower the current energy consumption and work on building renewable energy solutions. Today, 31 companies are participating in the MEA-Industrie organization. And we are still growing ! ".
